Holywell-cum-Needingworth Parish Council Needs YOU!
A person is qualified to become a council member if he/she is a Commonwealth citizen and is an elector over the age of 18 years old. In addition he/she must, for twelve months prior to nomination, have either: resided in the parish or within 3 miles of it; or occupied as owner or tenant any land or premises there; or had his/her principal or only place of work there. All councillors have to sign up to the ‘Parish Councils Code of Conduct’. Details of which are available from the Parish Clerk.
Elections and Meetings
The Parish Council is made up of 13 Councillors and all 13 Parish Council seats are up for election on 7th May 2026. Councillors are voluntary and serve for a term of 4 years. The Parish Council meets on the first Tuesday of every month in the evening with committees meeting on the 3rd Tuesday monthly.
Responsibilities
Our Parish Council deals with many aspects of village life including:
- Management of recreation grounds and play areas
- Organisation of grass cutting
- Maintenance of the bus shelter and provision of seats
- Provision and maintenance Mill Way cemetery
- Provision and maintenance of the garden plots
- Act as an employer – employing a Parish Clerk, assistant to the Parish Clerk, Groundsman, Assistant groundsman and Cleaner.
We are also consulted by Huntingdonshire District Council about planning and development within the parish and work closely with both the County Council and District Council on many varied issues.
What do Parish Councillors do?
Speak at council meetings – all views are important, you need to join in with what’s going on in the community and understand what local people think, make decisions on behalf of parishioners including how much money the Council should raise from tax and ensuring that the money is then wisely spent.

Book of Condolence
Our book of condolence will be available for signing at Needingworth Village Hall on the following dates:
Saturday 10th September, 12pm – 1pm
Monday 12th September, 12pm – 1.30pm & 5pm – 6pm
Tuesday 13th September, 9am – 10am
Floral Tributes
Anyone wishing to lay flowers a designated area has been made available adjacent to the Roll of Honour, High Street, Needingworth. Floral tributes will be removed the day after the funeral.
In line with our protocols all events on Parish Council property are cancelled during the period of mourning.
BBQ’s & the hot weather
Open spaces can become susceptible to wildfires so we would remind you that barbeques at our open spaces, Millfields / Falklands, Holywell Front and Overcote Lane playing field are not permitted.
Due to the high temperatures today, 19th July 2022, the Planning & Finance and Environment meetings have been cancelled and will be rescheduled for Tuesday 26th July 2022.

Platinum Jubilee Celebration
Friday 10th December 2021 saw the official switch on of the annual Christmas Tree lights.
Members of the Parish Council were joined by the choir from St John’s Church Holywell for carols around the tree and refreshments were supplied by Needingworth Guides.
Santa was once again in the Lock Up and families were able to visit on their way to the Christmas tree. He was offering a small gift and chocolate to all those that visited.
The Parish Council extends their thanks to all of those involved.
